Balbleir Distillery(8 May 2003)
Eddertonの町はずれの線路沿いに位置するBalbleir蒸留所。その歴史は古く、創業は1790年となっているがそれ以前から密造は行われていた。また、周辺はピート層に覆われ、ウィスキー造りに適した地域でもある。
北ハイランドの蒸留所はポットスティルに特徴のあるものが多い。Balbrair蒸留所のスティルは太い、丸みを帯びた形状で同地区のGlenmorangie蒸留所とは非常に対象的だ。
Balbrair Distillery lies on the outskirts of Edderton, near North Highland Lines Railway. They have an old history, it was established in 1790. However, illicit whisky had been made before. There is enough peat and water. It is a good area for making whisky.
Distilleries in Northern Highland have a unique shaped pot still. Pot still of Balbrair Distillery is thick, rounded shape. It is in contrast with a pot still of Glenmorangie Distillery.

英国の鉄道駅は町外れにあることが多い。駅前は賑やかという日本の感覚でいると列車を降りてから不安になる。更にInvernessから北側の路線は日に3本しか運行されず、Tainの駅はもちろん無人駅。City Linkのバスの方が本数も多いし所要時間も短い。この路線がなぜ残っているのか不思議だ。
Most stations in Britain aren't in town centre. When I get off the train, I sometimes feel uneasy. In Japan, most stations are in town centre, and it's a really busy area near a station.
North Highland Lines Railway between Inverness and Wick( or Thurso) is operated only 3 trains a day. There is no station employee at Tain Station. I think City Link Coach is more convenient than train in this area. I wonder that it is survived.

それはそうと、いつも Ｂａｃｃｈｕｓ Ｉｓｈｉｇａｋｉ 様の写真を見て思うのですが、ホントに蒸留所ってきれいですよねぇ
その美しさを見ているだけでも、お酒がおいしくなってきます
